Governor McKee Names Mindy Penney to I-195 Redevelopment District Commission

 

PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Dan McKee announced today his nomination of Mindy Penney to serve on the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission. 

 

“Mindy is a proven innovator and entrepreneur. Her insight and expertise will be invaluable in helping us develop economic opportunities for Rhode Island,” said Governor Dan McKee. “I look forward to working with Mindy and the rest of the Commission to boost economic activity, support job growth and set our state up for long-term success.” 

 

“Mindy’s extensive experience and innovative approach in both the construction and manufacturing sectors, make her a great choice for this important role. Her track record in leading successful projects will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and revitalization of our state’s economic landscape,” said Secretary of Commerce Liz Tanner. 

 

“Mindy brings a critical perspective as an entrepreneur and a small business owner in the construction industry,” said Marc Crisafulli, Chairman of the I-195 Redevelopment District. “I thank Mindy for her interest in serving with us and look forward to working with her.” 

 

With more than 30 years experience in manufacturing and 15 in construction, Penney is the founder and CEO of Lindon Group, Inc., a Rhode Island-based, woman-owned distribution and rebar fabrication company serving all of New England. 

 

Prior to this role, Penney founded and served as the president/CEO of Lindon Product/Lindon Development Group, which specialized in product design and development, before it merged with Lindon Group in 2003. Penney led a team that spearheaded development for more than 70 products and patented several products including the Pocket ETK explosive testing kit used by the military. 

 

Penney is currently president of the board at Harmony Women’s Center and served on Providence College’s National Board of Overseers for a decade. She is a 1988 graduate of Providence College and received the 2019 Mal Brown Award, which recognizes alumni whose lives exemplify the love and loyalty for the school. 

 

“I have lived in Rhode Island my entire life and I know that the work of the I-195 Development District Commission is critical to the future of our state,” said Penney. “I believe that my industry experience will be an asset to the mission of the commission, and I’m excited for the opportunity to serve Rhode Island in this capacity. I thank Governor McKee for entrusting me with this role.” 

 

Penney’s name will be submitted to the Rhode Island Senate for advice and consent.
President Trump is signing an executive order intended to dismantle the Department of Education. The White House says test scores for kids have been in decline for years, and it's time to see education authority be returned to individual states. Education Secretary Linda McMahon will have to get Congressional approval to officially abolish the department. The Education Department was first established under President Carter in 1979.        Another deadline for the Department of Justice over deportation flight details has gone by. A federal judge gave the DOJ until noon Eastern today to provide more details on the flights carrying alleged Venezuelan gang members. It's the latest legal back-and-forth between The White House and the judge, who claims he has the authority to pause the flights.        Stocks are closing lower today. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost eleven points to 41-953. The S&P 500 went down by 12 points to 56-62. The Nasdaq lost 59 points to 17-691.        The U.S. Coast Guard says it offloaded nearly 46-thousand pounds of illegal drugs in Florida today. The drugs are worth over 500-million dollars and were seized in over a dozen interdictions in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem spoke at the port, saying the interdictions and seizures are another milestone in President Trump's mission to protect our borders.        Florida has been named the most stressful state for Emergency Room visits. The rankings were compiled by insurance company Policy Guide and covered factors ranging from cost -- in which Florida also ranked first -- to number of admissions and number of inpatient days per one-thousand residents. If you're looking for the least stressful E-R visits, Wyoming is the place to be.        A sequel to the Pixar animated film "Coco" is on the way. Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the upcoming release of "Coco 2" during the studio's annual shareholder meeting. The film, still in the early stages of development, is slated to be released in 2029. That's 12 years after the original premiered to rave reviews, earning over 800-million dollars at the global box office.
