AttendanceMattersRI: Governor McKee, Commissioner Infante-Green Recognize Weekly Attendance Leaders and Improved Schools 

 

Week of November 13, 2023   

 

PROVIDENCE, RI- Acknowledging the importance of consistent attendance in education and in alignment with the #AttendanceMattersRI campaign, Governor Dan McKee and Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green are pleased to highlight the top elementary, middle, and high schools with the greatest average weekly attendance, as well as elementary and secondary schools with the greatest improvement in weekly attendance.  

  

The following schools are Rhode Island’s attendance leaders for the week of November 13, 2023*:  

  

·     Elementary: E.G. Robertson School, Warwick – 97.91% 

·     Middle: Lawn Avenue School, Jamestown – 96.92% 

·     High School: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts ** – 97.51% 

  

Special recognition is extended to the following schools for demonstrating the most improved average attendance rates from the previous week: 

  

·     Elementary: Centredale Elementary School, North Providence -- 3.56% 

·     Middle: Hamlet Middle School, Woonsocket – 4.24% 

·     High School: Newcomer Academy, Providence – 4.67% 

  

The Governor and Commissioner express their gratitude and encouragement to all schools in Rhode Island for their ongoing efforts to prioritize attendance and reinforce the value of consistent learning experiences for all students.

Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz at the White House today, a day after she called for an immediate cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip. A White House official said Harris will reiterate that civilian casualties must be reduced. More than 30-thousand Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the war began October 7th with a Hamas attack on Israel.       The Supreme Court is expected to release at least one major decision. The ruling may be the case of former President Trump's eligibility for Colorado's presidential primary ballot. The opinion or opinion's will be posted online at 10 a.m. Eastern. This comes after the Colorado Republican Party asked the high court to act before Super Tuesday primaries this week.       Heavy snow is crippling California highways and creating life-threatening conditions around Lake Tahoe. One wind gust was clocked at 190 miles per hour. More than a hundred miles of Interstate-80 remained closed Sunday from the Nevada border. Many travelers were trapped in their vehicles for hours.       Chicago Police are investigating more than a dozen shootings in the city over the weekend. Police say a total of 15 shootings occurred between Friday night and Sunday morning. In one of the more chaotic scenes, a teenager was killed in a large gathering Saturday evening in Chicago's South Loop.       NASA and SpaceX are marking the successful launch of the Crew-8 mission to the International Space Station. The SpaceX Crew Dragon Endeavour atop a Falcon 9 booster took off from launch complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center Sunday night. Unfavorable conditions prompted officials to scrub Saturday's scheduled launch attempt on Florida's Space Coast.       Iowa women's basketball superstar Caitlin Clark is now the NCAA all-time scoring leader. She scored her 18th point in Iowa's game against Ohio State on a free throw just before the end of the first half to break Pete Maravich's all-time NCAA scoring record on Sunday. She set the new record just weeks after breaking Kelsey Plum's all-time women's NCAA scoring record.
