Annual Veterans Day Observance November 11, 2022

 

WOONSOCKET, R.I Mayor Daniel M. Gendron along with the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket announces the annual Veterans Day Observance that will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the United Veterans Armed Forces Park on Davison Avenue at 11 o’clock a.m. Participants will include Veterans organizations, city and state officials, the Woonsocket Police and Woonsocket Fire Department Honor Guards & the Woonsocket High School Band.

Mayor Gendron said "Please join us on November 11th as we honor our veterans who have honorably served our country and their sacrifices have ultimately given us the freedoms which as Americans is the foundation of our democracy. We continue to honor them not only today, but every day"

There is limited seating available so please feel free to bring a chair. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Museum of Work & Culture 42 South Main Street. Announcement of the venue change will be made on local AM radio stations WNRI and WOON. WOON radio will also broadcast this event live.

 

Oxford, Michigan High School shooter Ethan Crumbley will spend the rest of his life in prison. He killed four students and injured seven others on November 30th, 2021. A Michigan judge handed down the life without parole sentence Friday after hearing impact statements from witnesses and victims of the shooting. The defense team had pushed for a sentence of between 25 and 40 years.        The Israel-Hamas war is raging on in the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces are moving forward with their assault on the southern part of the region. This comes as the U.S. has warned Israel it must "put a premium on civilian protection" while it fights Hamas.        Hunter Biden is facing nine criminal charges in a federal tax case. Prosecutors accuse the president's son of living an extravagant lifestyle while failing to pay at least one-point-four million dollars in federal taxes between 2016 and 2019. The indictment claims he spent his money on drugs, escorts, luxury properties and exotic cars.        A massive storm is set to impact the eastern half of the U.S. this weekend. Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds and even snow may affect millions. It'll start to take shape today and really gain strength on Saturday as adverse weather will stretch for more than 12-hundred miles from the Gulf Coast all the way up to the Canadian border. The storm will reach its top strength by Sunday afternoon and will eventually push off the East Coast on Monday.        The FDA is approving sickle cell treatments that include CRISPR [[ crisp-er ]] gene-editing technology. That could open a door for thousands of patients in the U.S. to receive a treatment that has the potential to alleviate painful effects of the disease. The FDA approved Casgevy [[ cass-give-e ]], which is a one-time treatment for patients 12 and over.        The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner will be announced this weekend in the Big Apple. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., Oregon quarterback Bo Nix and Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will gather in New York City on Saturday to see who will become the winner of the 89th annual Heisman Memorial Trophy. This is the fifth straight year that there will be four finalists for the most coveted individual trophy in college sports.
